Chicken Liver Gateaux

I did not make the Chicken Liver Gateaux for this weeks assignment... I am just not a liver lover!!

But I thought I would share a picture of Dorie's son Josh and myself taken last Sunday at the retail location of Beurre & Sel in the Essex Street Market.  It is a very small store but filled with  a great variety of cookies.  I bought Jammers, Classic French-Vanilla Sables, Mint Chocolate Sables and Rosemary-Parmesan!  They are all wonderful!!!  But I think my favorites are the Jammers and the Rosemary-Parmesan.

Josh was so much fun to talk to!  I told him I was a big fan of his Mom and just had to visit their store (It cost me almost $20.00 each way in a cab) he tried to convince me to take the subway back..but I felt I'd be safer in the cab (who knows where I would have ended up if I took the subway)!!

I had a great trip in New York!  I was also able to go to Eataly, which is amazing, wish I would have been able to buy some fresh pasta or cheese or meat or fish... etc. to take home!!  We also had dinner at Guy Fieri's new restaurant Guy's American Kitchen & Bar...it was just o.k.  Had a wonderful dinner at Becco, chef Lidia Bastianich's restaurant (thanks Kathy at Bakeaway with Me for the recommendation!)  I enjoyed Afternoon Tea at the Plaza...a real treat!!

I am also a Good Morning America fan!  I headed down to Times Square early Tuesday morning and couldn't believe I actually made it on TV with my sign Haden Grandma Loves You!  Haden is my 22 month old grandson!  What fun!!

I look forward to next weeks recipe -- Shrimp and Cellophane Noodles!

  1. OMG- this was an amazingly fun post !!! Thanks so much for sharing all your details, especially since it was such a spectacular trip. Nana and I have been to some of these spots and need to get back. Boy would I love to get to that cookie shop- I am Googling details after leaving this comment :) And the liver wasn't too bad in fact, but this is because Nana knew I was scared and did the yucky prep for me. Great, great post !!

I am absolutely going to hit Beurre and Sel next time I hit Manhattan - it has been on my list since it opened.

  5. I think your trip to NYC sounds much better than chicken liver gâteaux (as much as I liked them). Thanks for sharing your stories!

  6. It sounds like you had a wonderful trip to New York! I enjoyed your photos and I think it is so cool that you were able to go to Beurre & Sel and that you go to meet Josh. :) I bet the cookies were delicious. I have wanted to go to all the places you mentioned since reading about them especially Eataly. I would have preferred a trip to NY rather than being home making liver gateaux. ;)

  7. Sounds like a really fun trip! I'm going to NYC this spring and definitely plan on going to Buerre & Sel. My sister-in-law made the Jammers for our Christmas get-together and they were amazing!

  8. What a great trip! And how awesome to make it to Buerre & Sel and have your photo taken with Josh! Eataly is one of my favorite places- I am able to get everything there that doesn't fit into my suitcase from Italy. You did so many great things!
